Deciding to live life, not watch it pass by

11 Weeks Vacation per year I will show you how I did it. You are not living life until you start to take at least 11 weeks of vacation per year. I never forget the day we sat down to plan it out. As a family we were going to use 11 weeks of vacation. It was a lot of fun yet a lot of fear at the same time. We remember the days of taking the customary 2 weeks given to us by our employers. And now that we were free to go and come as we pleased. All that freedom scared us a little. But only for a minute.

Pure joy

It was pure joy knowing we would spend so much time together as a family. We were extremely excited to explore new cultures and go on amazing culinary adventures we once only dreamed of. God has blessed us with this amazing opportunity to spend quality family time together. We love to sit down with our kids and talk about where we have been. And where we are going. Not to mention where we want to go, our future trips. We have set out future trips 10-15 years out in the future. Together we decide where we want to go and when we want to go there.

My dream is for to have that same amazing experience and freedom. It won’t be easy and you will need help. You will get some backlash as well as countless naysayers. But at the end of the day it’s about you and your beautiful family. Our kids are currently receiving a highly enriched, international, multicultural education.

Is it all worth it?

One of the most impactful moments in my life must’ve been when my beloved, successful, hard working uncle passed away. My uncle was only 66 years old. He worked his entire life for a major insurance company in New York City. When he retired at 65 he received a gold watch and a huge retirement party. Sadly, he would only enjoy one year of retirement. That was it. He was diagnosed with cancer and would die having only visited 4 countries his entire life.

My mind set completely changed. I started to question why give 40 plus years of your life building someone else’s dream. And or building wealth for someone else. Why not live my own dream? Why not live for those I love the most? Those decisions have taken me to this point in my life. I’m a couple of years away from turning 40 but I’ve already lived far more than my uncle ever had. Furthermore thinking about my kids and their lives. My son 7 and my daughter 3 have visited at least 30 different countries in their young lives.

No regrets

I think about my uncle almost on a daily basis, more when I travel to new places with my kids. I remember him fondly but I also remember he would only take one or two weeks of vacation per year. Like I said my 7 year old son and 3 year old daughter have some serious stamps in their passports. My best friend recently mentioned that my son has traveled to more countries than him. He is a very wealthy 40 year old financial executive.

None of this is to brag or to make you feel bad. Open your eyes and do more with this amazing life we are blessed with. The internet has opened up so many opportunities. Financial freedom and independent personal success is within reach. But you must have an open mind when we these opportunities are presented.

For most 11 weeks might sound like a pipe dream but I promise you, the moment you make the decision to be free, to truly be free you will never look back. You will however wonder why you didn’t do it sooner.
